Go Where Few Others Dare
Where Will Your Journey Take You?
Develop Your Technical Hard-Skills
Providing Unique Clients Exceptional Adventures
The purpose of Tellus Marinus Global Expeditionis is to enrichen lives through experiential learning under varying and challenging conditions in outdoor environments through participation in adventure sport expeditions. Personal development of Self-Reliance, Technical Hard-Skills and Personal Grit are our cornerstones in this process.
In this era of multisport athletics, ultra-racing, obstacle course events and adventure racing, TMGE is here to present the opportunity to put all your hard work to an exciting challenge! Our Team provides unique bespoke adventures for highly motivated, athletic clientele. Want to test your skill set? You and your team will set out with a destination and itinerary designed for you. Our Expedition Challenges will push you out of your comfort zone. We're looking for those individuals who want to test their boundaries and are willing to "Send-It!" every day! We specialize in trekking or paddling into locations where few want to tread, and fewer still are actually capable. When we do this, we also provide daily training in varying subjects to build your knowledge and physical hard-skills. We are not a traditional guide service, and you are not "catered" to. Although our Leadership Staff Instructors (LSI) are there for your safety and to push you as coaches, our expeditions are self-supported by you, and you will carry your own load. We can guarantee discomfort as we present challenges based on your goals. In the end you complete the challenge with increased self-confidence, improved technical skills, a solid self-examination of your functional fitness and of course, incredible memories!
Each Expedition Challenge is developed based on interests of applicants. You will be grouped with others looking for a similar experience.
It Takes More Than a Pulse!
Unlike many adventurous, guided activities offered around the globe, our Expedition Challenges incorporate many multi-disciplined adventure sports into one exploit into the wilderness without foreknowledge of what exactly is to come! If you're looking for a true adventure, you've found it! Expedition Challenges are physically and mentally demanding by design. The main competition however is with yourself, to push through each day of discovery and to test your mettle against the obstacles in your path.
"The impediment to action advances action; what stands in the way becomes the way." ~ Marcus Aurelius
Your Expedition Challenge is divided into four phases, and we make it simple; not easy:
Selection, Planning, Preparation & Execution
Selection
Here is where it gets interesting, and we separate ourselves from other organizations.
Application & Adventure Bio:
Anyone can apply to participate in an Expedition Challenge, by way of submitting an Application & Adventure Bio, however only successful candidates will ultimately take part in the Expedition Challenge. We strictly limit the size of our expedition teams by way of limiting the applicants excepted, and by conducting a screening Selection phase. As we warned, "it takes more than a pulse!" We do not accept just anyone. Your position on an Expedition Challange Team must be earned.
Expedition teamwork starts in the competitive Selection phase of your journey. You should arrive fully prepared for your expedition. Your advanced mental preparation and physical training will make this a successful process for you. During this screening phase you will be seriously tested.
Selection is an objectively graded and documented, pass/fail process with no predetermined time limit. Selection combines benchmark qualifiers and Reality Based Training methods testing your capabilities and decision making under stress to ensure a safe and fulfilling expedition for all involved. We reserve the right to eliminate any candidate who does not demonstrate attributes to be safe under duress, whether those be physical, mental or emotional. This process is risk mitigation at its core. Where we go, you cannot quit on your team. There is no going back once committed without sacrificing the entire expedition. Applications for our Expedition Challenges will be rigorously screened, and selectees will be invited to Selection.
Fitness for Selection:
You should arrive at Selection being capable of performing 10 dead-hang pull-ups, 50 push-ups, perform a 25M underwater swim, swim non-stop for 1000 M with the first 500M in 10 minutes, perform a static breath hold underwater for 1 minute and 30 seconds, and be able to carry a 45lb. pack or rucksack over at least 5 miles of untracked, undulating terrain within an undisclosed amount of time. You should not suffer from any phobias, including but not limited to acrophobia, aquaphobia, motion sickness or claustrophobia.
Medical Evaluation Form:
Additionally, you will need to provide your Medical Evaluation Form signed by a medical provider clearing you for strenuous physical activities without limitations. This form will be provided to you once your Application & Adventure Bio is approved.
Arrival:
Upon arrival at Selection, you will meet with our LSI medical professional for a brief review of your medical screening form, medical history and a final functional movement assessment. This is a private review with client privacy and HIPAA being strictly adhered to. You must pass this final medical and safety screening to participate in Selection.
Our LSI fulfill the role of your coach and mentor, but you must bring your A-Game and a positive mental attitude!
Anyone who does not pass Selection will meet with the lead LSI for a review of their performance prior to returning home. We do not expect to turn anyone away, but it is a possibility if you have not prepared adequately.
Planning
The Planning phase begins immediately following successful completion of the Selection phase. You will be provided adequate time to return to your accommodations to shower, change and then meet for your first team meal together. After the days stories and exploits have been shared, we will get down to business and you will receive a briefing consisting of an Expedition Situation Report, Safety Briefing and a Contact List for your fellow team members. Buddy Safety Teams will be assigned, Packing Lists are reviewed, and an Equipment Layout will be conducted.
Discrepancies with individual equipment loadouts will be addressed and time may be allotted for team members to acquire required equipment on a case-by-case basis. If you arrive fully prepared, this will be a quick process. If you have not, you may not be able to continue on. Any other personal logistics that must be taken care of are completed at this time and you and your assigned buddy will perform one final check of each other's equipment.
Execution
Congratulations, your Expedition Challenge begins now!
Details of individual expeditions will be revealed on an as-needed basis throughout the process of preparing to attend Selection and the Expedition Challenge challenge itself. As mentioned earlier, unlike other adventures you might have undertaken, you embark on this Expedition Challenge without all the information you would like to have, but you will have what you need. You've assured us that you are ready to go, you've demonstrated your capability to succeed, and now you'll embark and meet the unknown head-on!
Each day of your Expedition Challenge will consist of short training topics in the field followed by the challenges themselves.
Mutual logistical support of the expedition team is a requirement of all participants and daily tasks will be assigned which may include cooking, gathering of resources, filling and purifying water bottles, fire maintenance, shelter crafting, standing watch, navigation and route finding, scouting, team leadership, etc.
Our experiential training model consists of providing opportunities for individuals to succeed by completing challenges and tasks set forth by the LSI staff. All challenges are subject to change based on experiences on the ground.
Getting Started
So, how does all this begin? You simply decide what geographical climate zone from the list below you are interested in experiencing by way of submitting your Application & Adventure Bio.
We will then follow up with you after screening of your bio and you will be added to the list of selectees. Once enough selectees are chosen to enable an Expedition Challenge in the climate zone of your preference, we will follow up with you to advise of the country where the Expedition Challange will be held. Depending on demand, expeditions need to be planned many months in advance.
Welcome to the Jungle! Discover hidden grottos, cascading falls, towering canopies and exotic wildlife. Swim in primordial waters and embrace your primeval self. These expeditions can easily be the most physically challenging and pose many risks from the natural environment.

Between subtropical and polar climates, vast regions of mesothermal and microclimates exist. Within these are forests and grasslands that range from hot, mild or rainy summers to cold, dry or wet winters. This presents lots of variety in the types of adventures to be had.

Mountain heights share many similarities with the Arctic and Antarctic, especially extreme weather consisting of cold and drier conditions that only provide windows of fair weather for much of the year. Many seasonal adventures are tough, but they become absolutely harsh in the cold. Alaska is our backdoor for experiencing raw, untamed wilderness.

Arid and Semi-Arid climates often contain desert regions which provide a beautiful landscape to explore. Expect extremes in temperatures depending on latitude and time of year. Endure the heat during the day, and the cold during nightfall!

Ocean and inland waterborne adventures are incredibly rewarding, yet highly dependent on group experience level. Kayaking, Pack Rafting, SUP, Surface Swims, SCUBA Diving, Skin Diving, etc. are all core activities.

The most exciting expeditions cross over and combine experiences on land and on the water! Our X-Zone adventures embody the "Tellus Marinus" concept and provide the greatest range of educational skills to take home with you. In September 2021 I was a member of the world record setting team for the highest obstacle course race ever held on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. The event attracted gold medalists, mountain runners, record setting athletes, ultra-runners and elite OCR athletes from around the world.
Following a summit of Kili, the obstacle event was held in the crater at an altitude over 18,000 feet.
Following the world record, the first annual Altitude OCR World Championships was held. This involved additional and more challenging obstacles, plus two timed runs back down the mountain: a 5K & 13K, beginning with an optional 2K fun run from the crater. Continuing the TMGE standard, I chose to run off the mountain with the full kit weight of 40lbs. that I carried up.
